Thieves broke into the Holsworthy North Devon Hospice shop in the Square some time between Tuesday, October 12, night and the early hours of Wednesday, October 13, stealing the day's takings, the float and contents of a collecting tin.

The police have found fingerprints and are awaiting a report from forensics.

Volunteer Shirley Barriball told the 'Post': "It is distressing to think there are people who would stoop so low as to steal money intended to support the hospice.

"In future we shall not be leaving any money on the premises overnight."

If anyone has any information relating to the theft, please contact the police on 08452 777444, or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
