WORKS at Newport in Launceston being carried out by South West Water are expected to continue until December 4 — although they aim to complete the task as soon as possible.

South West Water is carrying out exploratory works for a new mains pipe. The necessary work has caused lengthy traffic hold-ups of as much as 40 minutes at peak times.

The town council on its Facebook page said South West Water is looking into the feasability of a range of routes to install the new mains water pipe from Roadford to the town.

The council said the existing pipe is old and demand for mains water is on the increase.

It said further studies will be undertaken affecting the town’s Roydon Road and then Cross Lanes.

Temporary traffic lights are expected to return for another two weeks from February 8 2016.
