A PICNIC by the pool will take place at Bude this weekend for all to attend.

Friends of Bude Sea Pool will be hosting its third 'Big Lunch' this Sunday. They are inviting everyone to take along a picnic, enjoy poolside refreshments, meet friends, listen to great music new and old.

There will be fun and games for all, featuring High Tide, electro acoustic rock and blues band; Life's a Beach barbecue, The GMC Choir, Mark Rosser sings swing; AquaFit 'have a go', Bude Canoe Club 'have a go' and demonstrations from Bude Surf Life Saving.

Refreshments will be available from Bean Surfing Coffee, teas, coffees and cakes are available from noon.

The 'Big Lunch' was founded by the Eden Project.

A spokesperson said: "The aim is to get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours annually on the first Sunday in June in a simple act of community, friendship and fun."

Since starting in 2009, thousands of Big Lunches have taken place in all types of communities.

In 2014, 4.83-million people took to their streets, gardens and community spaces for the sixth annual Big Lunch.

Bude Sea Pool was created in the 1930s to provide a haven for safe swimming for the people of the town and the thousands of people who visit it each year.

It is a rare kind of construction, partially man-made and in harmony with the natural environment.

Following funding cutbacks, the sea pool faces an uncertain future. The Friends of Bude Sea Pool was formed in early 2011 to secure the pool's future under local management.
