HOLSWORTHY’S fire crew assisted with the extinguishing of a large vehicle fire near Highampton.

A telehandler was discovered ‘well alight’ on fire within a silage pit.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two fire engines from Holsworthy and Okehampton and a water bowser from Barnstaple, were mobilised to a Telehandler on fire within a silage pit in the Highampton area. On arrival the vehicle was well alight.

“Crews used two breathing apparatus, one hosereel jet, and a thermal imaging camera to bring the fire under control. The water bowser was stood down before arrival as a nearby hydrant was used. Crews closed home station around 6.30pm to clean and service equipment, ready for the next emergency.”
