On Tuesday April 14, 63 Launceston Seniors played in a team stableford competition with 2, 1 and 3 to count on sequential holes, a format chosen by Captain Robin not to the liking of all players.

With course and weather offering no problems the resulting scores were very good indeed, all prize winners between 4 and 12 better than par. Eric Thomas playing with his highest handicap since joining the club in 1988 received a shot on the 17th par 3 for the first time ever. He duly scored 3 for 3 and therefore contributed on the 1 score to count hole. Thanks to Lawrence Bailey for spilling the beans on that story. Eight 2's were achieved with Jim Manson getting two.

Captain Robin away at the Looe match meant John Russell again stepped into the breach determining the prizes, aided and abetted by last year's Captain Brian Ben-David.

Results: 1st, Ken Moody, Peter Wall & Tony Japes 84; 2nd, Lawrence Bailey, "Swiss" Joe & Merv Jenkins 77; 3rd, Graham Pratt, Phil Baskerville & Keith Roberts 77; 4th, Peter Lyons, Tony Spooner & Mike Shellswell 76; 5th, Brian White, Alan Ferguson, & " Wild Card" 76.

Also on the 14th the Seniors team were away to Looe. The home side won 5-3 but 6 of the 8 matches were decided on the 18th hole. Captain Robin received mild polite applause for his after dinner joke, not surprising as it came from a local "Parish Magazine" therefore not of the usual genre for these occasions. Not for the first time "Teetotal Terry" won the wine for nearest the pin, no doubt someone at home was grateful.

Results: Robin Johnson(Cpt) & Peter Howard lost 2 down: Paul Roach & Morley Brown won 1up; Derek Ratcliffe & Mike Perkins lost 1 down; Brian Alford & Peter Holland won 4&2; Tim Johnson & Robert Loughran halved; Terry Swords & Richard Dudley lost 3&2; Derek Davey & Rodney Duke lost 1 down; Graham Chanter & Neville Helme halved.

On Friday the 17th the Seniors were at home to RAF Chivenor. Not a Club Seniors team it meant Launceston could be up against some 30 or 40 year old youngsters. The result was a creditable 3 all draw. Who should win the wine hole but that Teetotaller again, he must be getting popular at home.

Graham Nevitte arrived minus his change of clothes for dinner, Tim Johnson, his partner on the day, lent him enough to get by, considering their difference in size it was very fortunate it was the right way round.

Results: Robin Johnson(Cpt) & Dave Bundy won 2&1; Graham Chanter & Peter Jones (Sec) lost 2&1; Brian Alford & Terry Swords lost 4&3; Derek Ratcliffe & Don Slee lost 2&1; Graham Nevitte & Tim Johnson won 5&4; Tony Bowden & Peter Holland won 4&3.
