STUDENTS at Launceston College were celebrating their excellent GCSE results last Thursday morning, with many students collecting a whole suite of the highest possible grades, as well as students with grades well above their own personal target.
Top performer was Coral Benfield who achieved A* in A Level creative writing, the new top grade 9s in English, English literature and mathematics, as well as seven grade A*s and a grade A in her other subjects; Gabriella Asman achieved three grade 9s and seven grade A*s and a grade A.
Launceston College MAT executive principal, Jack Jackson, said: “We are delighted with Launceston College students’ achievements across a wide range of subjects — it is impressive to see what young people can achieve when they work hard and are taught well.”
Launceston College principal, Bryan Maywood, said: “I am hugely proud of the students and their achievements; these results reflect five years of dedication both to their curriculum and to the wider offer at the college — with many very successful students having taken a prominent part in the college’s adventure learning offer: Ten Tors; Devizes to Westminster kayaking; Duke of Edinburgh etc. The students have worked so hard, and we applaud the support they have received from their teachers and families.”
There were many other fantastic individual stories including: Georgia Hill, Ellie Fish, Joe Tucker, Tyler Wickens, Marysia Matysik and Rosie Sheldrake who all gained an equivalent of eight A/A* grades each.
The highest achievers, making the most personal progress, included Luke Britton, Harry Draper, Sian Meehan and Cian Baker who all achieved an average of 2.5 grades above their expected grades for each subject.
The college re-opens to students on Tuesday, September 5, following sixth form induction for Year 12 on Thursday, August 31.
Further information on all exam results and other achievements can be found on the college’s website, from the beginning of September.
