Year 11 students at Launceston College held their Celebration Day, previously known as Leavers' Day, on Tuesday, June 29.
They arrived at the college, dressed in their suits and gowns, in all types of transport which included space hoppers, numerous stretch limos, motorcycles, tractors, and even a fire engine.
Thanks were expressed to local residents for their patience as there was a little disruption to traffic, but that was kept to a minimum by a marshalling system supervised by site manager Stan Blake.
All of the college turned out to welcome the students and head of expressive arts — Alastair Stevens — gave a running commentary describing the vehicles and introducing the students. Principal Jack Jackson welcomed each of the students to their last day at school.
After the arrivals the students were presented with their awards and certificates and sat down to a lunch that had been prepared and served by the Year 10 students who themselves will be enjoying the experience next year.
Head of year Louise Rash said: "It was one of the proudest days of my life. They are a great group of young people and on the day they all looked stunning and arrived in such an amazing range of vehicles.
"They all conducted themselves brilliantly and this has attracted compliments from other members of the local community. I hope that they all enjoyed the day as much as I did."
She continued: "The lunch provided by the catering staff and the Year 10 students was top notch and at the end of the day the final assembly and entertainment provided by the Year 11 band was very personal and very moving.
"It topped off an excellent day. I would also like to thank all of the staff who helped make the day so special and most importantly of all I would like to thank the parents for their comments and support on the day and their support over the years."
