Despite intermittent drizzle on Saturday, June 13, supporters were not deterred, and the Friends of Narberth Museum's first strawberry tea was a resounding success, with visitors keen to admire the gorgeous garden and welcoming home/B&B of Julie Thomas and Brian Saunders.
The Friends are most grateful for their generous sponsorship of quantities of strawberries, and for the calm way they organised the whole event. Strawberries, scones, cream, tea, coffee, cakes - even gluten-free - all appeared like magic on the day, with helpers in museum pinnies to keep the water boiling and the teapots filled.
New and beautiful bunting had been made especially for the occasion by Janet Sheen, to whom grateful thanks are extended.
Thanks also to Atheston Forestry and Firewood, for the clotted cream, Jackie Palit, for scones and cakes, Jane Fletcher, from the Old Rectory B&B at Lampeter Velfrey, for invaluable help in the kitchen and for gluten-free cakes, Jackie Thompson, for tablecloths, Elaine Cocciadiferro for the gazebo and polenta cakes and Mary Jones for all the pretty china and table flowers.
Paul Hayes and his guitar provided soothing musical accompaniment, the volunteers all rallied round and the organisers were delighted that new mMayor, Elizabeth Rogers, also visited.
Raffle prizes were donated by Suzanne Rees Glanister, Brian and Mary Jones, Andrew Rees, Haulfryn the Jewellers, Tracy Povey Holistic Therapist, Narberth Museum, and Old Hat Quirky and Vintage.
Together with the tombola and the plant stall (items donated for both of these), a grand net total of £340 was raised for museum funds.
It is very much hoped to repeat this popular event next summer, and provision will be made, whatever the weather!
