THERE have been complaints made to Cormac about roadworks in Stratton, after families have been kept awake due to inconvenient working hours.
The Post was contacted by Simon Merchant recently, who lives in Barnfield Park, Stratton, with his wife and two daughters. The roadworks, which started on the evening of Monday, February 27, are located near Simon’s home in Barnfield Park, and continue all the way up to Hillhead, which is in between Stratton and Bude.
Simon — tired and frustrated, as he told the Post — said: “The roadworks in Stratton have been keeping me, my wife and my two girls awake. They are in a built-up area and we had no notifications that this would be happening.
“When I spoke to Cormac, I was told that they (the roadworks) would be going on for four nights this week (starting from February 27) and then four nights the week after next (starting March 13), from seven till seven.”
Simon, who works 12-hour shifts from 6am until 6pm, has been left feeling stranded by Cormac.
He added: “With all the hassle experienced at the top of Stratton, I thought I’d better get in touch with Cormac. When I spoke to them, it was almost as if we had to shut up, sit back and get used to it.
“Everyone’s getting to the end of their wits now, and with the work at the roundabout, which seems to be going on forever, it’s getting ridiculous.”
He added: “Out of courtesy, it would be nice to know what’s happening. When I spoke to the supervisor at Cormac, I was told the customer service person that I needed to speak to was ‘obviously trying to sleep’, and so I said ‘well, so am I’.
“I know the road has to be done, but couldn’t a diverted route be provided? The hours, from 7am until 7pm, are waking us up while people are trying to sleep. I’m very irritable.”
A spokesperson for Cornwall Council said: “We apologise for the disruption that may result from these works, some of which will be taking place over night to minimise traffic disruption and inconvenience to the travelling public.
“The noisier elements of the night time works are planned to be completed before 11pm, although less noisy works will continue overnight. The work will be carried out over three weeks with a full closure of the road for night-time works scheduled to take place during week one and week three. In week two, the works will take place during the day under traffic light control.
“Once again, we apologise for any inconvenience whilst these vital works take place.”
