WALKERS can be sure of a welome in Camelford — and that's official.

The town has been accredited as a Walkers are Welcome town, making it only the second in Cornwall to achieve the status.

John Pearce, a member of the Town Team, made the announcement at a recent meeting of the town council.

He said: "Some of you will know that we've been looking into whether we can become an accredited Walkers are Welcome town. A little while ago, we became accredited.

"The Walkers are Welcome is a national organisation that supports towns that welcome walkers. The idea is to bring as many people into town as possible, especially walkers. It's a way of saying what a wonderful town Camelford is."

Mr Pearce gave a number of pamphlets to councillors, explaining the scheme, and a Walkers are Welcome sticker to display in the council office. They will also be distributed to shops in the town.
