EVERYONE was named ‘star baker’ at the first ever ‘Great Holsworthy Bake Off’, organised by the Holsworthy Mutual Aid, with the whole community getting involved.
The Great Holsworthy Bake Off invited local families to get baking, no matter what their skill level, using ingredients provided in free hampers.
This friendly community ‘competition’ followed on from the Holsworthy Mutual Aid’s successful hampers, which they have been distributing to local families to combat the lack of free school meals being provided during the holidays.
Co-organiser Jon Hutchings said: “After we did our first hampers we asked the families what they would want if we were to do it again. The overwhelming consensus was that they wanted an activity they could do as a family — so we created The Great Holsworthy Bake Off.”
All families partaking were supplied with the same ingredients and some basic recipes, but the rest was up to them.
Jon said: “We had some really creative entries. So many young people got involved which was amazing and everyone looked like they had a great time.
“We asked people to share their creations on our Facebook page and there were some really great efforts.”
A huge number of locals donned their aprons and pulled out all the stops to produce some successful, and some not so successful, bakes.
