A FORMER Budehaven School student and Launceston resident has been named 'overall chef of the year' at Petroc College's annual competition. Rohana Thorne, at a presentation ceremony in front of friends, family, staff and fellow students, was also named highly commended in the level three category, and could not contain her delight. She said: "I'm so shocked to win, it's amazing. I just took it each step at a time and really didn't expect to get this far. "I'd definitely encourage students to enter the competition, as it gives you great experience in working under pressure — something which is essential in this industry." Petroc's top catering students gathered at the North Devon campus for the competition. The event, which is held in partnership with Philip Dennis Foodservice, was open to students on all food-related courses and gave them an opportunity to showcase skills they have learnt on their course.
