THERE has been a flower festival in St Teath for decades but this year was a first — the theme had never been ‘pub signs’ before.

“The choice provided a unique challenge for village organisations and flower arrangers. How do you depict your favourite pub name in flowers?” a spokesperson said, adding: “They obviously loved the challenge.”

The Allotment Society aptly decided on ‘The Slug and Lettuce’ while the Football Club exhibited a wide range of woodworking tools for ‘The Carpenters Arms’. No prizes for guessing the theme chosen by the village pub, the White Hart.

The flower festival is a biannual fundraiser for the church of St Teath but was moved to a new date at the beginning of July this year to avoid the carnival season. There was a steady stream of visitors to see the arrangements and enjoy refreshments in the church hall and buy from a selection of stalls.

The weekend ended with an unusual concert by St Teath Choir, led by choirmaster Alan Dawe, and Stubby’s Jazz, robustly directed by Gareth Stubberfield.
