A COMMUNITY cinema celebrated its opening with a free film screening for village children recently.

The lights dimmed, the curtains opened and The Moorland Community Cinema in St Breward Memorial Hall opened its doors to an audience of children, parents and grandparents.

The special free event was held on Saturday, January 28 to celebrate the opening of a newly equipped cinema with a large screen and full surround sound.

Starting with a short cartoon followed by the feature film ‘The BFG’, the event proved to be a huge success and the cinema was full to capacity with 22 children and 17 adults attending.

Generous grants from The Big Lottery and the Cornwall Council Community Chest have enabled the committee of St Breward Institute and War Memorial Hall to create this facility for the community.

The cinema normally opens on the first Saturday of the month showing popular classic films and occasional recent releases.
