THE duty manager of the Phoenix Leisure Centre in Launceston has been clearing up litter left on benches and children’s play equipment in Launceston’s Coronation Park.
Although all the rubbish has been cleared away now, the park has become a site plagued by litter in recent times and some feel it is such a shame that the park is not being kept in a clean state and that the litter being left around possess a danger to young children.
Ryan Hall, duty manager at the Phoenix Leisure Centre, spoke to the Post about the damage caused, he said: “It seems a shame when we have such a lovely leisure centre and park that people feel the need to litter and cause damage when there are so many bins around!
“It is not the leisure centre’s responsibility to clean the park but we worry about the safety of the children playing there.”
The chairman of Coronation Park Trust, Dave Gordon, went up to the park to investigate the damage and although he was unable to see the litter left around, due to it having already been cleared away by Mr Hall, he did notice that a number of the dog bins have gone un-emptied.
He said: “I went up to the park to have a look and myself can’t see any damage and the litter has been cleared away, however, I did notice one of the dog bins is full up and has not been emptied. I have contacted Cormac and hope that it is emptied by the end of today (August16).
“With regards to the issue of damage and litter in the park I have contacted councillors Jade Farrington and Gemma Massey and I hope that they will be able to chase it up.”
