PLANS for the Holsworthy skateboarding event are coming along quickly, with consideration now being given to which skate school should be invited to run classes in the morning.
During the full council meeting Cllr Nigel Kenneally, who spear headed the idea for an event which will see the town’s often forgotten skateboard park utilised, said a recent meeting had shown great promise.
He told the council: “We had a meeting the other day. We’ve contacted some skate schools to see if they will run some skate classes in the morning for children aged two to 18.
“I have also been informed it would be called a ‘jam’, not a competition, and that it is a ‘multi wheeled event’ so not just skateboards can enter, we could have scooters and roller blades etcetera — I am learning so much about skateboarding from organising this!”
Cllr Kenneally said he had received a quote from one skate school but would wait to hear from other schools before making a decision. He said: “They would provide all the equipment. They have quoted £295 but I am waiting for the others to get back.”
Cllr Pete Shepherd asked if the skate school would be organising security.
Cllr Kenneally said: “That will be something we look into when we have agreed who will run it. I can’t see two year olds needing security though.”
Cllr Shepherd responded sarcastically: “No, because teenagers are always well behaved!”
Cllr Kenneally said he would provide the council with more updates as they were obtained ahead of the event scheduled for September 19.
