SEMI-TONED, the winners of Gareth Malone’s The Choir: Best in Britain, 2016, is coming to perform in Bratton Clovelly on June 2.

Praised for their creativity, uniqueness and vocal acrobatics this highly acclaimed choir from the University of Exeter embraces music of a variety of genres.

After their winning performance in ‘The Choir: Gareth’s Best in Britain’, aired on BBC2 in 2016 and the Voice Festival UK in 2015, Bratton Clovelly Festival is pleased to welcome them.

Doors and bar will open at 7pm, there’ll be a concert at 7.30pm followed by a question and answer session and a light buffet.

This performance completes an exciting and diverse programme for 2017 organised by Bratton Clovelly Festival, a newly established charity.

It includes two art exhibitions and five music events, drawing on local Devon and Cornish talent, such as the Artists of Gwynngala, Semi-Toned, the choir, Cornish Art Historian, David Tovey and the Hartland Chamber Orchestra as well as talent from further afield, such as the K’antu Ensemble, whose album, Gusto, was featured on BBC Radio 3.

A spokesperson for the festival said: “Our aim is to produce something for everyone and this year’s programme will begin with the Balagan Cafe Band, a fiery world music trio from London who will perform in Bratton Clovelly on March 31. We’ll finish the year with a Choral Evensong with Exeter Cathedral Choir on September 24.

“In these early days, the charity has limited funds, but through the kindness of local people and small local charitable trusts, it has been able to produce some first class entertainment right in the heart of this small rural community, keeping prices low and affordable to all.

“It’s very much a community project, with local groups such as the WI producing cream teas and other food, volunteers creating website and flyers and helping to set up tables, chairs, lights or whatever is needed.”

See the Balagan Cafe Band — a highly skilled and vibrant London based trio who create a musical mix like no other band — at Bratton Clovelly Parish Hall on Friday, March 31, at 7.30pm.
