TRADE tool and hardware retailer Screwfix is coming to Launceston.

The industrial and logistics team at Colliers International has secured four new stores in the South Wales and South West region during the first quarter of 2016 for Screwfix.

Two sites have been acquired in the South West as part of a target of finding 60 new sites across the UK this year: Launceston and Newton Abbott. The other sites are at Ebbw Vale and Port Talbot in South Wales.

Screwfix has enlisted Colliers International on a national basis to identify suitable sites for four successive years.

Unit 2B Scarne Industrial Estate in Launceston is a new build property which extends to 4,300 sq ft. The unit is positioned next to Launceston Retail Park.

Tom Watkins from the industrial and logistics team in Bristol said: “Most of the sites we have acquired so far have been off-market deals that we have managed to secure because agents are aware of what we are seeking as sole advisor for Screwfix, and this has continued in 2016 as we seek appropriate sites.

“We are delighted to have hit the targets set for us by Screwfix three years in a row, despite the fact that stock is very limited at present. We are pleased to have already secured a number of key sites in 2016, with a number of further options in the pipeline.”

Screwfix, which is part of the Kingfisher group, announced in 2013 that it planned to open new stores around the UK, with the aim of ensuring 91 per cent of the population were within a 30 minute drive of a Screwfix store.

In 2014, Colliers International was brought in to locate 60 sites a year with either existing or new build units in areas offering good access to population centre.
