A?SPONSORED run/jog/walk to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy UK was the first joint sporting and charity event for the new Bude Primary Federation, Bude Infant and Junior Schools.

The federation chose this worthwhile charity as there are currently three children in the federation with MD, and the federation wanted to raise money to help fund research and support those with muscle wasting conditions.

The ‘Move a Mile for Muscles’, and ‘Wear Orange for a Day’ day started with two special assemblies led by Gillian Jones, the regional manager for MD UK, who explained what MD is.

Muscular Dystrophy UK is the charity for the 70,000 people living with muscle-wasting conditions in the UK. It brings together people affected by more than 60 rare and very rare progressive muscle-weakening and wasting conditions.

Muscle-wasting conditions are very rare, affecting just over one in every 1,000 people. As a result, some health professionals may never come across anyone with a muscle-wasting condition and may not know much about them.

Since 1959, the charity has been supporting families living with muscle-wasting conditions. They provide vital information, advice, resources and support for people with these conditions, their families and the professionals who work with them.

Deb Rosser of Bude Infant School said: “With 70,000 people with MD in the UK, three of whom are in our school, what better way was there to raise lots of money!

“Every child in school did their mile, from the four year olds to the 11 year olds! We mixed year groups up for each session and it was wonderful to see such support and enthusiasm among the children! They were all buzzing!”
