CANCER has affected many people in some way or another, whether it has been a close family member, someone they know, or even themselves.
The Pupil Forum at St Stephens Community Academy, in Launceston, decided it was time to take action against this disease and to raise as much money as they could for a well-deserved charity.
The Pupil Forum organised their own Race for Life and encouraged everyone to donate £1 to take part.
A mile was marked out around the school field, and children could run, walk, jog or even skip the mile.
Once they had completed the run, fruit and a shiny medal was offered to them to say congratulations.
It truly was a fantastic day, and it was incredible to see the amount of support given. Not only did the Pupil Forum organise the Race for Life event, but they also held a competition.
Each family had to raise as much money as they could, using the sponsorship forms provided by Cancer Research.
The family, which raised the most money, won tickets to a family attraction centre. The winning family managed to raise a whopping £120.
Miss Katie Goodman, the Pupil Forum leader, said: “It was overwhelming to see how much support was given to the Pupil Forum. They managed to raise a whopping £588 in total.
“When I told the Pupil Forum that I was going to run the 5k Pretty Muddy Challenge, they wanted to be a part of fighting the disease also.”
Miss Goodman ran the 5k Pretty Muddy Challenge on Saturday, July 23, with a team of close friends.
Thousands of people attended the event. Women of all ages had to run five kilometres, but there were muddy obstacles that needed to be tackled along the way.
Miss Goodman’s team, ‘Kez’s Angels’, managed to raise over £1,300.
Miss Goodman added: “We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported us, whether you supported St. Stephens Academy or Kez’s Angels. Thank you to everyone that sponsored us, every penny really does count and goes towards a well-deserved charity.”
