A teen from Davidstow has made it to the final of the Miss Junior Teen Great Britain pageantry competition, representing North Cornwall.

Scarlet Bruton, 14, has reached the final in the annual Miss Junior Teen Great Britain competition. The pageant describes itself as “a platform to celebrate teenagers, their achievements and their goals.” The aim is to empower teens, have fun, allow them to make friends and make memories. The Miss Junior Teen Great Britain team emphasise that the event is “not a beauty contest”.

Scarlet only got involved in pageantry last November, however, despite only a few month’s experience, she has managed to see off the competition to make it to the grand finals.

Speaking to the Post, Scarlet explained how important this experience is to her.

She said: “It means so much to me to have this opportunity. It involves empowering teens, and making new friends while having a memorable time.”

Finalists in the competition are expected to carry out fundraising work for a charity of their choice.

Scarlet has chosen to raise money for Together For Short Lives Charity.

“I decided to fundraise for this charity because it helps young children with life limiting conditions to have as fulfilling lives as possible,” Scarlet explained.

Together For Short Lives offers support to seriously ill children and their families, so they can make the most of every moment they have together – whether that’s for years, months or only hours.

Scarlet will be hosting charity events to raise money for the cause and also has an online fundraising page which can be found here: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/togetherforshortlives-scarletbruton
