Bude and Holsworthy Macular Society has received a welcome boost with a £1,600 cheque from Santander.

David Golding, group leader, sent a letter to a number of banks asking if they would be willing to offer funding to help pay for trips out.

The self-funding group received a positive reply from Santander, which offered to donate £1,600 from a community fund.

Linda Gliddon, Launceston Santander branch manager, attended last week’s meeting of the group to hand over the cheque.

David extended his thanks to Santander, adding: “Under the present financial climate, it was very nice to get something. The cost of transport for these trips is horrendous, that’s what the money will be used for, for the benefit of our members.”

The macular group has around 20 members who meet every second Monday from 10am to noon in a room at Holsworthy Hospital. Tea and coffee is available and arrangements are made for a guest speaker to attend.

Anyone with poor eyesight is invited to join the group.
