THE food waste recycling facility based in Holsworthy has been awarded the OHSAS 18001, the occupational health and safety management standard.

Andigestion has a plant in Holsworthy and Gloucester and is delighted to have received this prestigious award.

The standard, which helps business foster a safe and healthy working environment, applies to both of Andigestion’s sites — with its Holsworthy plant currently recycling approximately 70,000 tonnes of food waste a year from households, schools and businesses across the county.

Through its food waste recycling processes, the Andigestion anaerobic digestion plants contribute clean, green and eco-friendly energy to the surrounding communities. The Holsworthy site produces electricity that is fed back into the national grid, generating enough power to supply 10,000 homes. The by-product, a liquid fertiliser, can also be used by local farmers instead of carbon-intensive mineral fertilisers.

Commercial manager Jason Ward said: “We’re delighted that both plants have been awarded this valuable standard, which recognises that Andigestion provides a safe and healthy working environment for all its employees.

“This recognition is a great ‘stamp of approval’ on all that we do to protect our staff and ensure that their working environment is safe and fit for purpose.”
