JOHN Davis on behalf of the National Coastguard at Boscastle was presented with a cheque for £250 from the president of the Rotary Club of Camelford David Hodge at the Coach House, Lanteglos. Boscastle station opened in 2003, using a National Trust building which needed renovating. It has 32 volunteers and tries to have two on duty together on a shift. Three months ago, it received permission from English Nature to install CCTV to cover a blind spot at the entrance of the harbour. There are 50 coastguard stations around the coast, which normally report to Falmouth, who decide what to send to an emergency. They operate daylight hours with volunteer watch keeping from 8am to 4pm in two shifts. For the full report, and a round-up of the area news and sport, see this week's edition of the Post.
