RESIDENTS of Holsworthy and the surrounding areas have a chance to have their say on taxi provision within Torridge.
Torridge District Council currently restricts the number of hackney carriage, or taxi, licences it issues — in order to maintain this restriction they are required to conduct a taxi demand survey.
However by law, a council can only restrict licence numbers if it is satisfied that there is no unmet demand for taxi services in its area.
The Local Transport Plan process requires local authorities to consider how transport provision for their area contributes to wider objectives such as economic growth, accessibility, the environment and safety. Taxis are an integral part of local transport and therefore need to be taken into account within this provision.
The council has appointed CTS Traffic and Transport to undertake this survey as an independent company must undertake it.
Part of the survey wants to hear the views of members of the public regarding taxi provision within the Torridge district.
To complete the survey and give the council an idea of the public’s views visit www.torridge.gov.uk/article/16182/Public-Taxi-Attitude-Survey.
Alternatively visit the council’s offices where staff will be able to assist. The survey will run until July 15.
