REMEMBERING the fallen in time for Sunday, November 11, the town of Holsworthy created a fitting tribute in the town Square and hopes to see the new display filled with thoughts and poppies.

Town councillor Jo Heaven and council handyman George Wilcox have not only created four brilliantly red drapes out of poppies and wooden crosses, which now hang over the old pump, they have also set up a special display which will enable people to attach their own poppies — be them red, white, purple or other.

The displays have been created by Cllr Heaven and George thanks to the help of fellow councillors Mike and Ken Watson, deputy mayor Colin Punter and assistant to the town clerk Kerry Wilcox. Their hard work has paid off and the group are pleased with the outcome.

Cllr Heaven said: “We (George and myself) wanted to do a fitting tribute to WWI, which I think we have achieved.

“We created the stand as we thought it would be nice for people to pay their own respects by placing their coloured poppies in the square.”

People are welcome to attach poppies, words or thoughts to commemorate the contributions of the British and Commonwealth military and civilian service men and women who did their bit during the two world wars and later conflicts.
