THE annual Altarnun Dog Show took place on Saturday, August 27 with over £300 raised for St Luke’s Hospice.
With over 200 dogs competing in 21 different categories, there was as ever an excellent turnout.
However, unfortunately this was the first ever fun week and dog show without former organiser Carolyn Burrows who had sadly passed away in April following a battle with cancer.
Despite the sad circumstances, her widow, Brian, has taken on Carolyn’s former role and said that it was a wonderful day for the dog show.
Brian said: “Thankfully the weather was really kind to us and we managed to raise a good amount for St Luke’s where Carolyn was so superbly looked after during her final months.”
The event is quite a big draw for the local area, dog owners from the likes of Landrake, St Neot, Plusha and of course Five Lanes and the village were present as one judge inspected the dogs.
As well as the respective categories there are four special prizes, for the Best in Show, Reserve Best in Show, Best Puppy (under 12-months-old) and Best Veteran (over seven).
The winners of those four classes were as follows:
Best in Show — Biabie (Terrier) owned by Pippa Perryman of Five Lanes; Reserve Best in Show — Flint (Whippet) owned by The Ferphins from Landrake; Best Puppy — Layla (Lurcher) owned by Ms K Bunt of St Neot; Best Veteran — A spaniel owned by M and K Juby of Five Lanes.
As well as the main part of show there were also cakes, savories, tea and coffee available in the church hall while a raffle also took place to add to the final total.
Once the dog show was finished in the afternoon there was a duck race before an evening of skittles commenced in the church hall.
