A RETIRED serviceman, who was inspired to help people affected by Alzheimer's disease after his mother died, is urging the NHS to be more transparent with funding available to cover the costs of care.
Roger Burgess lives near Holsworthy and has been helping families obtain funding towards care costs for relatives with Alzheimer's disease for a number of years.
He was inspired to help others after his mother and grandmother suffered from the disease.
In 2009, Roger began researching the NHS's Continuing Healthcare Fund (CHC), which provides financial support to people with a primary health need who require long-term care.
After eight months of working on a case, Roger was able to claim back care fees for his mother. Since her death in 2010, he has carried out in-depth research and donates his time to help others in the same situation by raising awareness of the NHS scheme.
