An emergency closure has been implemented along Race Hill in Launceston after a notoriously unstable wall collapsed.

Race Hill below the junction for Bounsall’s Lane was closed to motorists last week, with a diversion along Tavistock Road in place.

A CorservLtd spokesperson confirmed: “Race Hill has been closed under an emergency closure and we are liaising with the adjacent landowner who owns the wall. Following a structural survey undertaken today, we hope to start removing the debris next week and reopen the closed section on Race Hill towards the end of next week.”

On Monday of this week, Launceston Town Council’s Clerk Chris Drake confirmed: “I was advised by Cornwall Highways (who are the authority responsible for the road network), this morning that they have inspected the issue at Race Hill and have confirmed that appropriate action is being taken in accordance with their Highway Maintenance Manual.”

As the Post went to press the road was still closed.
