A NORTH Cornwall social club has channelled its inner egghead, all while raising hundreds for a local cause.

Members of Bude Social Club got their buzzers ready and prepared to flex their knowledge as part of the group’s Music Quiz Night Raffle.

The popular event was held in aid of Bude Memory Café. The group provides a friendly and relaxed meeting place for people living with memory loss, their family, friends and carers. It is a place to make new friends, socialise, share information and enjoy an entertaining afternoon.

The cafe, which has been running since 2010, provides an opportunity for carers to meet with other carers; and many of the volunteers have been carers themselves.

A spokesperson for the group added: “We welcome unaccompanied individuals who are able to arrive and leave independently but we cannot take responsibility for anyone who is not able to be left on their own.

“As well as the afternoon's entertainment, game or activity, there is plenty of time to chat while enjoying a cup of tea and a piece of cake.”

The prospect of a quiz is something that the Bude Memory Café team could not pass up. Nicky Shaw, the cafe chair, gave the club members a short talk on the importance of the café in Bude and then she and five fellow volunteers settled down to test their music knowledge.

A spokesperson from the group said: “Sadly ‘Team Mem Caf’ didn’t win (a wooden spoon may have followed them home), but they all agreed that they had had a wonderful evening and were very grateful to all the club members for their incredible generosity and hospitality.”

The event was a huge success, raising an impressive £301.35 for the local initiative.

The cafe meets at the Park House Centre on the first and third Friday of the month.
