BRADWORTHY Primary Academy School pupils were showered in all the colours of the rainbow on Friday to show their support of Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) ‘Rainbow Run’.

Keen to help raise awareness of the event, which raises much needed funds for the charity, the last day of term became a kaleidoscope of colour as pupils and staff celebrated the half-term break by throwing liberal amounts of coloured powder paint at each other.

PE co-ordinator, Nick Lapham, said: “What great fun for both teachers and pupils alike! More importantly, we really wanted to find a way to help encourage families to take part in Rainbow Run, as we realise how important fundraising is to Children’s Hospice South West and how vital it is to maintaining its services for local families. It was an extremely colourful and messy way to end the term plus a brilliant way to raise awareness of the charity with our children in a fun and engaging way.”

The school was helping to promote Rainbow Run, the flagship fundraising event for CHSW, which takes place at Westpoint, Exeter, on June 9 and Newquay on June 24.

Jayne Jarrett, events fundraiser at CHSW’s Little Bridge House hospice in Devon, said: “It costs nearly £10-million to run our three children’s hospices in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset each year and events, such as Rainbow Run, are a great way to encourage fundraising and raise awareness of the charity generally. Community support is extremely important to us, and it was so delightful to see the children from Bradworthy really doing their all to help us.”

Although Rainbow Run is all about fun, by taking part and raising sponsorship people are helping to support the work of CHSW, which offers the only dedicated medical and respite hospice care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families in the South West.

Registration is now open and there are early sign up discounts available.
