PLANS to boost free wifi coverage throughout Holsworthy town square are almost complete.
Owner of Devon Tech Services, Steven Anderson set up basic free wifi for part of the town square earlier this year — almost 12 months after opening his shop.
Since then Steven has installed more equipment, which provides free wifi access covering the majority of the square, apart from the area near the Co-op. He hopes to set up a final hub on the town's pump in the centre of the square.
Steven said poor phone signal in the square inspired him to do something to help.
He said: "I set up it up as a bit of an experiment really after I was encouraged to do something for the town because it has done so much for me.
"Part of the reason was also because of the poor phone signal, which I had nothing but issues with — I would walk into the square and the connection would drop out, which was really annoying."
Steven has set up three hubs, which provide a free unlimited connection to anyone and is being well used by visitors and residents.
He added: "We had 430 users this month, that's not counting a user twice and for a small town like Holsworthy, that's pretty good.
"I am not sure it will bring more people into the town as such, but it's good for events like this week's St Peter's Fair, where usage has definitely increased."
