AN URGENT call has been made for greater community involvement with the fight to keep Camelford Leisure Centre open, and a public meeting has been called.
In response to budget reductions announced by Cornwall Council in November last year a local Camelford Leisure Centre Steering Group was set up and has been in place since January 2011.
Following discussions with Cornwall Council, £50,000 was agreed by Cllr Alec Robertson to help keep the leisure centre open for 2011 whilst an alternative model of operation was developed. A further, smaller amount of money for 2012 was also agreed in order to help with this transition.
