FIREFIGHTERS from Bude attending a recent 999 call all received parking tickets, a Cornwall Council meeting has heard.

Raising his concerns about “unacceptable” facilities at Bude Community Fire Station, Cllr Brian Clemens told fellow councillors about the parking fines issue during a meeting of the full council on Tuesday, February 24.

“I know that the firefighters at Bude had an issue a couple of weeks ago where they all ended up with parking tickets for parking on double yellow lines when they attended a 999 call,” he said.

“This is due to there being insufficient facilities to park at the fire station in Bude. I know that the chief fire office has previously said that there will be no changes to stations on her watch during this administration, but I do think that Bude is one that does need to be looked at.”

He asked for the council to consider moving the fire facilities in the town “in another administration as it is unacceptable as it is at the moment”.

Cllr Thalia Marrington, Cornwall Council’s portfolio holder for community safety, verified that the parking tickets had been rescinded and the matter would have been picked up anyway as the system would cancel the tickets once it was known that the firefighters were on a shout.

“We are looking at another solution to that and we are almost there,” she added. “The facilities at Bude are not adequate for the people there, so we have to make sure the facilities work for the people who are stationed there at the moment. We are looking at all the stations and as always there are limits with money.”

She said she was in conversation with Peter La Broy, the county councillor for Bude, about the town’s fire station.
