PROPOSALS have been put forward to tackle the issue of parking on Chapel Street in Holsworthy.
In recent years, cars parking on the left side of the road approaching the town centre before the bridge have made it difficult for approaching vehicles to see oncoming traffic from the Waitrose turning and under the bridge.
A proposal has now been put forward, with consultations being organised, to see if restricting parking in this area will improve road safety.
The current advisory disabled bay on this street will also be taken into consideration.
Devon County Council are proposing a change via the Torridge Highways and Traffic Orders Committee (HATOC) ‘Waiting Restriction Programme 2017/18’, for Chapel Street to have double yellow lines to restrict parking.
Their website states they have submitted a proposal for ‘double yellow lines on [the] narrow section approaching the town centre’.
Cabinet allocated an amount of £100,000 countywide from the ‘On Street Parking Account’ to this process in 2017/18, which equates to an amount of £12,500 to each HATOC area.
The approximate cost for the road markings that would be needed on Chapel Street is £300.
The draft order, plans and statement of reasons can be viewed at Holsworthy Library.
Objections to the proposal and other comments specifying the proposal have been invited up until today (Thursday).
