RECENT figures of incoming Year 7 students released by Cornwall Council, showed the local authority had received more applications than registered places at Launceston College.

However, Principal Jack Jackson has confirmed with the 'Post', that any child who is geographically closer to Launceston College than any other secondary school, will be guaranteed a place at the academy.

Cornwall Councillor for Launceston Central Alex Folkes shared the figures at Launceston Town Council's full meeting on Tuesday, June 19.

Cllr Folkes had yet to speak with Mr Jackson before the meeting, and options for children would have been to take the bus to nearby colleges, such as Camelford, Tavistock, Holsworthy, Bude or Calllington.
