Bude Pride has won the annual BBC Radio Cornwall Local Heroes award in the category of the ‘together award’.
This particular category is awarded to an individual or group of people who inspire diverse communities to come together. They do this by creating real change and breaking down barriers, bringing people from different walks of life together for a common cause.
Alex Gibbon, of Bude Pride said: “We did it Bude! We are so proud to say that we won!
“Not only are we grateful to the judges who chose our entry out of so many nominations, we are also grateful for the queer community we support. This award is for all of you, and the positive change we are creating for future generations of queer youth not just in Bude, but across Cornwall. From us here at Bude Pride Education, Thank you.”
He added: “It was a lovely evening, and we were honoured to attend with finalists who have done some exceptional things for the Cornish community and beyond, reaching all the way to the Ukraine.
“That room showed the positive impact people can have when they choose to be selfless, and act with compassion and love.”
Emma Clements, editor at BBC Radio Cornwall, said: “The awards showcased the amazing spirit and dedication of these special people and communities across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We are proud to be able to share their stories and recognise their achievements.”
Chris Burns, controller local audio commissioning, added: “The Make a Difference Awards are always an amazing experience, and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the individuals who have gone above and beyond to help their communities. We always really enjoy hearing the nominees and winners’ stories and sharing them with our listeners.
