THE Holsworthy & District Lions presented two cheques at their business meeting on Thursday, November 3, along with certificates to Lions members for their many years of service.

A donation of £200 was given to David Goulding of the Bude and Holsworthy Macular Support Group. The group offers support and advice for people who suffer from the breakdown of the eye’s macular, leading to loss of sight. The group was formed in March 2013 and meets every Monday at 10am in the dining room of Holsworthy hospital.

A second cheque, also for £200, was presented to Kirstie Stone on behalf of Holsworthy Scouts. The money will be used to help finance a trip to Iceland for the 15th World Scout Moot. The event starts with an opening ceremony in Reykjavík on July 25, 2017 and participants will have the opportunity to explore the capital city. The Scouts and Guides will then be taken to one of the ten camps where they will spend the next four days. The camps will be in different locations in Iceland, with each offering different program elements, including outdoor activities, workshops, roundtable discussions, challenges, and different cultural activities.

At the same meeting Kelly Musker was ‘badged-up’ to officially become a Lion — she is one of the three new lady members of the cub. At the other end of the scale, Lion’s Vice District Governor Ian Snell presented Richard Hutchings and Jeff Roberts of Holsworthy & District Lions with a certificate celebrating 45 years service as a Lion. Presentations were also made to John Cottle for 25 years’ service, and Brian Withall for 15 years’ service.
