BUDEHAVEN students are continually being prepared for higher education.

In April, 55 year 12 students attended the UCAS convention held at Exeter Westpoint.

One hundred and fifty national and international universities were present with their new course prospectuses, alongside gap year companies and Uniformed Services. There were also information seminars on university life and finance options.

In addition, two students attended master classes at Corpus Christi College, The University of Cambridge. Thomas Sobey looked at Physics and Olivia Angilley studied Chemistry. Lowenna Hooper is attending a residential summer school at University College London to read mathematics. Molly Turner, Libby Coleman, Hannah Smith and Keren Davies are visiting Falmouth University to experience a residential creative writing course.

The summer schools are a great opportunity for high achieving young people in year 12 to get a taste of student life at a research-led university. The programmes balance busy academic days with enjoyable social activities.

These experiences will give the students a good insight into their chosen career and prepare them for their UCAS application in the autumn.

The current year 13s continue to decide where they intend to study in the autumn. The closing date for choosing a firm and insurance offer is in May. Students arrange to visit university open days throughout the year.

Chloe McGrath applied to read medicine and has accepted a conditional offer at the University of Birmingham. Medicine is a highly competitive course and Chloe had to perform through many rigorous interviews.

Aeron Gibson has been accepted to read business and economics at the University of Swansea. He intends to travel and work in a ski resort first.

Rosie Martin went through some rigorous preparation and interviews before being offered a conditional place at Birmingham to read children’s nursing. Georgina Allin is also pursuing a nursing career and has accepted a conditional offer at Cardiff to read adult nursing. Louise Jose has accepted a firm conditional offer to read Nursing at the University of Bath.

Isabel Osborne has accepted an offer from Central Lancashire University to read police and criminal investigation studies. Also, Robert Chopak has accepted a firm, conditional offer to read social policy and criminology at Birmingham. Joely Cook is intending to read public relations at London Metropolitan University. James Hambly has received a firm, conditional offer to read product design engineering at the University of Loughborough. Also, Dean Henwood has received a conditional offer to read criminology and criminal justice at the University of Bangor.

Jack Savage has chosen to read biology at the University of Swansea. In addition, Rohana Shaharudin has accepted a firm, conditional offer to read physiological science at Bristol. Furthermore, Matthew Thain has decided to accept a firm conditional offer at Reading to read geography. Kieran Wint went through several auditions to get a conditional offer to read Music at Royal Holloway, University of London. Odinn Bates is hopefully attending BIMM to read Music production. Also, Connor Wilson has received a conditional offer to read mathematics with finance at the University of Exeter. Miranda Pittaway has accepted a conditional offer to read history at the University of York. Also, hoping to study history is Emily Whelan, who wishes to go to the University of Cardiff.

Budehaven offers a ICT A-Level qualification and this has led to many students being able to pursue careers in the burgeoning technological world.

James Pitt is intending to go to Falmouth University to read computing for games. Will Edwards has a conditional offer to read games technology at Bristol UWE.

James Pollard has decided to accept a firm, conditional offer at the University of Bath to read electrical and electronic engineering (Sandwich). Max Trenaman has received a conditional offer to read computer science at the University of Bristol. In addition, Stephen White has accepted a conditional offer to read English language and linguistics.

Georgia Higham has received a conditional offer at Cardiff Metropolitan University to read sport and exercise science. Furthermore, Jowen Bartrop has decided to accept a conditional offer at Loughborough University to read product design and technology. Molly Bevan has accepted a conditional offer at the University of Southampton to read modern history and politics. Makaya Bartrop will venture to the University of Brighton to read politics, philosophy and ethics. Furthermore, Joe Williams is going to Exeter College to read sports therapy.

The Level 3 BTEC Outdoor Sports Diploma has enabled several students to progress onto higher education. Josh Collins has conditional offers to read sport development, physical education and outdoor education at Plymouth Marjon and the University of Worcester. Also, Charlie Falla has accepted a conditional offer at Plymouth Marjon to read sport coaching.

May and June are the critical months for the year 13s. Many students have several exams that last more than two hours.

A Budehaven spokesperson said: “Enormous amounts of revision are required in order for them to achieve the grades they so want.
