MRS Zena Jones of Rilla Mill, attended an Investiture at Buckingham Palace on Friday to receive her MBE. The investiture held at 11am saw Zena and her family have an early start as they had to be at the Palace by 10am. Luckily, members of her family live at Gerrards Cross, so the journey up the previous evening made for a more relaxed and less stressful day. Zena was joined by her son Ian and his wife Amanda from Plymouth and by her daughter, Sally-Ann who lives in Banbury.
The Investiture was presided over by The Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, who is also The Duke of Cornwall in the absence of the Queen. "He was charming and most easy to task too," said Zena. "Everyone at the Palace was so helpful and made everyone feel at ease, and if there was a problem it was soon sorted."
Zena told the 'Post' that they were very honoured to be present to witness three distinguished gentlemen receive the Honour of Knighthood at the beginning of the proceedings and to witness Miss Rebecca Romero, twice gold medalist in the Olympic Games of 2005 and 2008 receive her MBE for cycling.
Mrs Jones, who is a village correspondent for this paper, received her MBE for her voluntary work within her local community at Rilla Mill and for the Linkinhorne Parish. She also told the 'Post' that during the ceremony, a selection of music was played by the orchestra of the Welsh Guards and that the whole day "was a great experience and so enjoyable."
