AFTER the turnout in Holsworthy on Boxing Day it was more of the same for the Tetcott Hunt meet in Stratton on New Year’s Day.
The support for trail hunting was clearly as strong as ever as people spilled off the pavements to catch sight of more than 20 beautifully turned out horses and the very friendly hounds.
Phones and cameras were soon clicking to record the colourful countryside tradition stretching back over many, many years.
The hunt said the welcome shown by the public was amazing with the whole area packed with people young and old.
The hounds in particular loved it as they mingled with the crowds really enjoying being stroked and patted, especially by the youngsters.
One lady was heard to say: “I come here every year and it is always so pleasing to see so many supporting this great event.”
Another visitor from Sussex said: “I haven’t witnessed a hunt for several years. What a magnificent sight and a tradition which we must make sure lasts forever.”
After the riders had enjoyed some tasty snacks, and a festive glass or two, provided by hunt members, the master-huntsman led the hunt out into the open countryside to follow the hounds seeking out the pre-laid scent trails.
