THERE is a funding boost ‘on the cards’ from Co-op for 38 community groups in Cornwall and Devon — with 15 of those benefiting from the Post’s area.

These groups are set to share an estimated £57,000 from the Co-op. Their new ‘Membership’ scheme, which was launched on Wednesday, September 21, will see Co-op members receive 5% reward on purchases of Co-op own brand products services, with a further 1% being given to local causes.

Each store is part of a community hub and members of the Co-op are able to log in online and choose which group or cause they wish to support. For those who do not chose a group online the rewards they earn will be added up and divided equally between the groups — so everyone benefits from this scheme.

The causes set to benefit from this new scheme will include: Friends of Bude Sea Pool; Morwenstow Community Centre; Oceans Community Centre, Bude; 1st Camelford Scout Group; Camelford Town Trust; Little Acorns Nursery, Camelford; Hatherleigh Community Centre; Hatherleigh Pre-School; Hatherleigh School PTFA; 1st Holsworthy Scout Group; Holsworthy Hospital League of Friends; Holsworthy Memorial Hall; Coronation Park Trust, Launceston; Launceston Memory Café; Launceston YFC.

Nick Crofts, president of the Co-op member council, said: “We aim to do business a better way, and what better way than to give back to communities as a reward for shopping with us.

“Our members have a unique opportunity to make a difference locally simply by using their Co-op card when they shop with us.

“Co-ops are here to support their members and the communities they live in and the money raised will provide much needed funding for organisations who contribute to improving local life.”

Members of the Co-op are able to choose which causes they wish to support by logging in to the Co-op’s membership website at www.coop.co.uk/membership

Money will be raised over a six-month period and then distributed to one of the 38 community groups.
