WE HAVE seen another mixed spring month through April, seeing gusts of wind and lashings of rain, with a bright, warm and sunny spell too — making our photography competition theme, ‘Perfect Picnic Spot’ somewhat tricky.

Despite that, we have received an abundance of lovely photography throughout April, giving us the opportunity to share local budding photographers’ work with our readers.

Our first favourite entry of the first week in April was a delightful snap, named ‘Rocking Horse’, taken by 20-year-old Neve Morris from Camelford, showing an adorable moorland pony galloping across land at Crowdy Reservoir.

Another entry came from Mark Sidwells the following week, with his beautiful photograph of the coast seen from Tintagel.

However, our winner of the month for April just had to go to Alex Smith, from West Putford, with his photograph of his family overlooking Hartland Hill Climb. We felt his photo was a fantastic way of portraying the beautiful coastal scenes we are lucky to see in Devon and Cornwall. Alex’s photo will represent the month of April in our end-of-year calendar for 2020.

So that leads us onto our photography theme for May. As spring brings an abundance of colour to the countryside, and the weather warms just a little, we thought it would give our readers ample opportunity to bring their camera with them while they are out and about to capture the true beauty of the area’s wild flowers, foliage and plants.

‘Flowers in Bloom’, our theme for May, gives scope for readers and budding photographers to be as creative or simplistic as they like — from a divine bluebell wood to some pretty flowers seen in the hedgerows, or even a plant you are particularly proud to have nurtured in your own garden — we want to see your floral photographs.

Favourite entries will be posted to our social media accounts, and the winner of the month will be announced at the end of May.

To enter the competition for May, follow us on Instagram, @thepostseries, post your photo to your own Instagram page, tag us in the photo and direct message us some details about the photo — a title, where it was taken, your name and where you are from.

For those without Instagram, please send entries to [email protected] along with some information about yourself and the photo.

Deadline for entries is Thursday, May 30.
