CAMELFORD Town Council has voted in favour of issuing poll cards to electors if there is a forthcoming by-election.
There are currently two vacancies on the town council, following the recent resignation of Cllrs Kirsty Ferguson and Shirley Goodman.
If more than two candidates stand, the council had the option to issue poll cards to every electorate in the parish, at a cost of £1,100.
Clerk to the council Mr Lee Dunkley advised councillors that poll cards usually give a higher turnout, but there is the cost implication. However, the money would only be spent if more than two people stand, forcing an election.
Cllr Claire Hewlett said it was a democratic process and proposed the provisional order of poll cards. Six councillors voted in favour, one against and one abstained from the vote.
The closing date for candidate nominations is March 2.
