TWO of Launceston’s Liberal Democrat county councillors, Adam Paynter and Jade Farrington (right), spent a couple of hours in the town square on Friday morning talking to the public about the council’s budget plans for the next financial year.

They spent time talking to members of the public with ideas and suggested topics displayed on a board.

Cornwall Council is looking into the possibility of increasing the council tax as Cllr Paynter, who is the leader of the council as well as being the county councillor for Launceston North and North Petherwin, explains.

He said: “Today we’ve been talking to residents about the council’s budget for the next financial year, including the probability of council tax rises because of cuts from central Government.

“The thing for me, the difference this year is that the general public have been telling us that they know council finances are stretched and they don’t mind paying a little more if it’s spent on essential services.

“People have been talking about bus services, housing, roads, car parking when we’ve been out and about in town centres talking to people about council services and anything else they want to talk about.

“We’re going to the town centres and the community network panel meetings to get views from residents and businesses across Cornwall.”
