AFTER a month of ‘micky taking’ from the public the Holsworthy neighbourhood police team can proudly announce their facial hair has raised a lot of money for charity.
Those at the Holsworthy station able to grow a moustache took on the ‘Movember’ challenge, instigated by Holsworthy police sergeant David Monkton.
Earlier this year Sgt Monkton was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
He fought back against the disease and to celebrate decided to take on the Movember challenge with his fellow coworkers to raise money and awareness for others.
The hope initially was to raise £200 for, and raise awareness of, prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health and suicide prevention in men.
Since the start however the fundraising has taken off and a revised target of £1,000 has been made.
The team are extremely close to their new target and are hoping they can get those last few donations to see them reach this impressive target.
Sgt Monkton said: “We are extremely grateful for all the contributions, messages of support and good will, and also the level of micky taking.”
He added: “We are still looking for donations and would like to exceed our target which is currently set at £1,000.”
So far the team has raised £961. To help push them over their £1,000 target, donations can be made at moteam.co/morridge
