DEVON and Cornwall Police have asked Cornwall Council if they can cancel a lease they recently agreed to allowing them to share the council building on College Road, Camelford.

It is understood this move comes in the wake of £50m budget cuts to the force.

Last year's decision to share the offices between the two organisations caused some outcry, as it meant other meetings, i.e. planning would no longer be able to be held at the premises.

Should there be a cancellation, it would appear there is a chance council meetings could once again return to North Cornwall, having been staged in Liskeard since the lease was decided.

A spokesman for Cornwall Council said: "The police have asked the council to consider surrendering the lease of the council's premises at College Road, Camelford and the council is in dialogue with the police on this issue."
