LAUNCESTON police said they are aware of concerns expressed with regards to what they describe as suspicious white transit vans and their occupants that are reported to have been seen in the Launceston, Tregadillett, Callington and Gunnislake areas over the weekend.

Police are aware that those using the vehicles have been asking for scrap metal, and are advising members of the public not to state that they have any scrap metal as police believe individuals are returning to locations to steal it once identified.

Inspector Lynden Hughes said: “It is clear from the concern expressed that there have been far more sightings than have actually and subsequently been reported to the police. It would greatly assist us if any member of the public who has a concern rings us on 101 or if a crime is in progress we are immediately informed via a 999 call.

“We will be advising of further updates with regards to this issue via Devon and Cornwall Alert. To receive these updates and to be advised of other policing issues within the local area individuals can register online at the website alerts.dc.police.uk”
