THE Give A Little Love Scheme run by Waitrose and Partners Holsworthy store supported numerous local community groups and charities in the lead up to Christmas.

The topic was ‘Making Christmas Magical’ and like everyone in the partnership Marilyn Chidley, Holsworthy Community Champion, was proud of what they were able to achieve.

Marilyn said: “The Women’s Centre at Bude provides emotional and practical support to victims and families affected by domestic abuse or violence. Listening to what they told us, it was really concerning that such a service was required in our rural area. We provided 20 gift bags to show these families that we care along with a cheque for £300 to continue the work they do. Sadly, this service is needed in our rural community.

“Harbour Bideford was the focus of our Branch Collection when warm coats/toiletries and Christmas presents were donated by our Partners.

“Holsworthy Luncheon Club and Holsworthy Day Companions mainly support the over 55’s locally. Both groups used their £300 to get back up and running again with a Christmas celebration. They both held a luncheon and a few Christmas treats were also donated by us to make the celebrations a little more special.

“We were also able to ‘Give and Little Love’ to our fellow essential workers by providing Holsworthy Ambulance Station with some festive treats whilst working their shifts over Christmas and New Year period, and finally both our Medical Centre and Hospital Staff received some additional refreshments to keep them going.”
