THE group behind transforming disused land in Launceston into a play park hopes to provide another piece of equipment there.
The new Lanstephan Area Play Park off St Mary’s Road has been brightened up with play equipment and planters by the Lanstephan Area Play Park Group and is being enjoyed by local families.
The land has been handed over from Cornwall Council to the town council, which will now maintain the site, and the play park group has requested to install another piece of equipment for younger children.
The town council was set to consider this request at its meeting on Tuesday, after the Post went to press.
Chairman of the Lanstephan Area Play Park Iris Lindsay said: “We still have a small amount of money and want to put a piece of equipment in for the smaller children.
“We don’t have enough to do it so we are going to ask their permission first and if we can we have got to raise some more money.
“We want to thank all the people who have contributed.”
On the handover of the site from Cornwall Council to Launceston Town Council, Iris added: “It’s all gone through which is really fantastic. We are hoping to have an official handover ceremony for the council.”
Launceston town clerk Christopher Drake said: “The transfer documents have now been completed and we are just waiting for the official document to be returned to the council advising of ownership. As soon as this is complete, we will be arranging a proper hand over event on site with officials from Cornwall Council.”
